The classroom is simply an area that is designated for learning. For a student to truly learn something, he or she must exert some form of desire to change his or her level of knowledge. Learning is also a shared experience. The most successful teachers are those who know how to share knowledge and are also open to gaining knowledge. The more one learns, the more opportunities one has to lead a successful and better developed life.

It is necessary for a teacher to be able to maintain control of a classroom. If a student is misbehaving, he or she should be warned and instructed to proceed with the appropriate behavior. If the student defies the teacher’s instructions repeatedly and becomes a distraction to the rest of the students, then the disruptive student must be removed from the classroom for the remainder of the class period.
Positive reinforcement and encouragement are two great tools that can be used to prevent disruptive behavior. Being fully prepared, engaging the students, and knowing the subject matter are ways to significantly reduce misbehavior in the classroom. A teacher that is confident, interactive, knowledgeable, and effectively communicates has a much better chance at maintaining control than someone who is unorganized, apathetic, and lacks the necessary knowledge.
However, when students are disruptive they should be dealt with in a swift and appropriate manner. Despite their behavior, students must always be treated respectfully. It is a teacher’s role to remain patient with students and to be a good example to them instead of becoming a distraction along with them. A class founded on respect is a class that will be successful.

There are several elements that make up a good learning environment such as the attitude of the teacher, the attitude of the students, and the physical surroundings. Once the teacher sets this precedent, the students are responsible for respecting each other and striving for excellence. It is the teacher’s responsibility to facilitate an attitude of respect between everyone in the classroom. It is also the teacher’s role to encourage all students to reach for excellence in all that they do. If these two things are the focus of a classroom, students will excel.
Finally, a good learning environment has a safe and inviting physical design. Student’s desk needs to be arranged in a way that is most appropriate for each day’s instruction. An ideal classroom has enough space that the layout of the room can change when necessary. However the desks are set up, every student must be accessible to the teacher. Despite whether the students are in kindergarten, junior high, or high school, the classroom also needs to be exciting. Students are encouraged to learn when they are in an environment that is exuding the excitement of learning. Posters, painted walls, bulletin boards, student work, and many other things can create an environment that is physically welcoming and exciting.

I will not allow computers to do the problem solving work but I will use them to make math more interesting and practical.
